The Gulf-Africa Strategic Partnership Initiative (GASPI) is pleased to announce that a high-level meeting and cooperation signing ceremony were held between:
Mr. Demba Hydara, co-chair (GASPI)
Ousseynou Weuzy Sarr – Representative of Gulf-Africa Strategic Partnership Initiative (GASPI) in Senegal
and
Mr. Oumar Ba
President, Association des Maires du Sénégal (AMS)
President, Association des Maires du UEMOA (West African Economic and Monetary Union of 8 Africa Nations and representing over 500 mayors in Senegal)
The meeting took place at the Office of the President of Mayors, in Central Dakar, Republic of Senegal, under the distinguished flag of Senegal. This engagement marked a pivotal milestone in recognising, strengthening, and expanding diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between the Gulf Region and the African continent. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared vision to promote sustainable development, economic growth, and digital transformation through the Gulf-Africa Strategic Partnership Initiative (GASPI).
Key discussion areas included:
- Promotion of sustainable municipal development and urban resilience.
- Strengthening investment partnerships in renewable energy, infrastructure, and digital technology.
- Capacity-building and local governance programs aligned with the Gulf-African Business Development Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting also served as a preparatory engagement ahead of the Gulf-Africa Strategic Partnership Summit, scheduled for December 22–27, 2025, in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Both parties expressed their firm commitment to advancing regional cooperation, economic integration, and city-to-city diplomatic partnerships between Africa and the Gulf Region.
